Dennis Mitchel Thompson
Principal

Dennis Mitchel Thompson, A.I.A. is a registered Architect in Oregon with more than 22 years experience in Portland and Philadelphia as a Project Architect and Architectural Designer. Dennis oversees and plans all architectural aspects of construction projects. He is responsible for final specifications, approval of ordered materials, cost control and overall guidance on schedules, objectives and concepts.

Dennis holds a Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania (1988) and a Bachelors degree in Art and Design from Portland State University (1984). Prior to starting the firm DMTA in 1999, Dennis was a Senior Associate at the 80 person firm, Sienna Architecture Company in Portland OR. There, he managed the design of the Avalon Hotel project in John's Landing and the design of the Madison Tower, a proposed mid-rise condominium project, in the historic King's Hill area of Portland. Before this, Dennis worked for 5 years with restaurant architect Lee Winn on various projects including Coffee People, Macheezmo Mouse and Caprial's Bistro restaurants. He also was the project Architect for the conversion of a 130.000 SF warehouse into the Sports Nation Fitness Center. This project featured a 55 foot rock climbing gym, a 200 seat restaurant, lockers, fitness equipment, aerobics, basketball and volleyball courts on the largest continuous maple wood floor in the United States.

From 1990-92, Dennis was an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Portland State University, where he continues to serve as a visiting critic for student juries. Dennis has been a member of the American Institute of Architects since 1988 and has been active in the local chapter, serving on numerous committees including Softball committee chair for 10 years and co-chairing the Portland Chapter Design Awards in 1995. This event was hosted by Oregonian Newspaper columnist Jonathan Nicholas, who in a later column added Dennis to his list of "The 239 most Interesting People in Portland". Dennis continues his involvement with the chapter's Small Firm Roundtable committee to this day

Tania Thompson
Business Development

Tania has been administering the business and marketing aspects of DMTA for over 5 years in addition to being married to the principal for over 21 years. Tania insures that projects are completed on time and under budget. She also handles consultant/vendor contracts, billing/accounts payable and is the supplier and materials rep. contact for the firm.

Tania hold two Bachelors degrees from the University of Singapore (English and Philosophy) and has a Bachelors degree in Curriculum Development from the University of Oregon. After a short stint teaching, Tania studied Architecture for two years at Drexel University in Philadelphia and then settled in as an independent technical writer working for clients such as Now Software and Intel. Tania's varied experiences and understanding of the business of Architecture makes her an invaluable part of the success of DMTA.
